2020 - Time for A Connected Vision: Purpose and Relationships in an Era of Servitization
Sally Guyer Global CEO, IACCM |
13:30
Keynote address: rising up - how is Servitization elevating the role and responsibility of the contract and commercial manager in a non-linear world? |
Our role as contract and commercial managers is changing in the era of servitization. Increasingly, as we drive change in our organizations towards integrated social, planetary and economic outcomes, our ability to deliver commercial outcomes as an integrated service is a crucial plank in the larger scheme. Our challenges can be informed by lessons from nature and neuroscience, understanding how the human body regulates itself to sustain a living whole that survives and grows. Dr Hodge draws insights for contract and commercial managers to elevate our responsibilities, roles and relationships in shaping organizational strategy and governance. His hope for contract and commercial managers is to rise up in the face of uncertainty, bold and unafraid, as catalysts for organizational agility and sustainability - the essence of survival of contemporary living enterprises. Dr. Richard Hodge Mentor and Teacher for This Century Leadership and Governance, Member of Faculty Thought Leaders Business School |
14:15
Keynote address: commerce in the 2020s - disrupted and disrupter |
Trade wars, regional conflicts, social and political unrest, regulatory change – the one certainty as we enter 2020 is uncertainty. And uncertainty makes life difficult. It is disruptive. Yet with that disruption comes opportunity – the chance for the commercial community to be at the forefront in delivering social and economic benefit. Last year, the Financial Times recognized how the role of commercial and contract management is itself disruptive. It offers solutions. It challenges the tired and failing model of functional siloes and unproductive contention systems. It welcomes change. Winston Churchill said: ”An optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty, a pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity.” Commercial and Contract Management can blend optimism, realism and powerful use of data to establish a new business discipline, driving commerce through the 2020s. In 2019, Tim Cummins was the global winner of the Financial Times Market Shaper Award for his work in establishing contract and commercial management as a force for change and innovation. He was also recognized by the University of Leeds when he was appointed Professor and Chair, International Commercial & Contract Management. He remains President of IACCM, contributing to its continuing research and strategic direction. Tim Cummins , Professor, Leeds University; President, IACCM |

Keynote panel discussion: public sector reform: It takes two to tango! |
Right now, neither public nor private sector appear ready to even enter the dance floor. They are like nervous teens standing at the edge and waiting for someone else to make the first move. People and technology: is physical negotiation dead or is the increasing use of advanced technology in negotiation diminishing the quality of results? The right mix of people and technology is critical to CCM Capability. But it’s not only the proportions, it’s the kind of technology and how it blends with the people that matter to bake successful CCM outcomes. To what extend has negotiation moved from being a physical to a virtual activity? And is the result a reduction of openness of conversation, and empathy towards counterparties? Building on from the introduction to the Strategic Guide we will discuss how we can we begin to exercise better judgment in our understanding of the use of different communication methods? What is the cost of using technology in certain situations where there needs to be a more intimate connection?

Keynote address: Cultivating Resilience: Purpose, Relationships and the value of Psychological Capital |
What keeps people bouncing back in the face of dramatic change at work? How do we optimize our psychological flexibility to cope with whatever comes our way? Ongoing research into Resilience at Work demonstrates that the number one driver of “change readiness” in individuals and teams is a sense of purpose. In an era where knowledge has become one the most powerful economic levers and uncertainty increasingly prevalent, the need for high quality communication is critical, so, why don’t people feel that they can speak up at work or contribute their best thinking? CCM as a discipline is very often focused on protection and compliance and work environments can be shrouded with a fear of failure and a reluctance to innovate. This fascinating session will explore how to create an environment where change is embraced and resilience and adaptation can flourish. Karlin Sloan Founder & CEO, Sloan International Group |

Case studies in servitization: what are the commercial challenges of making the shift to services? Today’s businesses must do much more than simply sell or acquire products. To stay relevant, cost-competitive and flexible, they are offering new services that drive a steady stream of revenue. In some cases, this has resulted in a complete shift where ‘service’ is the new product. Advanced service offerings require deeper relationships, improved governance and greater focus on performance outcomes. The impacts on contracting and commercial management - both buy side and sell side - are fundamental. Price cannot any longer be the only bargaining point. Value becomes the key. This session will explore two case studies that will help practitioners think about the broader implications of servitization and the shift of services to sustainability. |
